Thanks to "The Penguin Dictionary of Symbols" we know that the grasshopper, who remains silent at night and hums their trilling songs during the heat of the day, is emblematic of the blend of dark and light.

Colorful and utterly endearing, this 14k gold and multi-hued enamel insect balances realism and whimsy.

Its wing runs in shades of azure, navy blue and mustard green. In tones of ochre, bronze, black and lime green, the body segments are painted in a manner to accent the three dimensionality of the brooch.
